MegaplanIT Assessor Spotlight: William Ryan

William has over 20 years of experience securing systems and data in both the public and private sectors. In the public sector, William established and managed a security program for a large public school district supporting over 70,000 students and staff. In the private sector, William established and managed a security program for International Speedway Corporation (now NASCAR). In both sectors, William wore many hats jockeying between security program management and engineering tasks such as systems vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and web application vulnerability testing.

As an IT Security Manager, William was a trusted partner with key departments and business units including human resources, legal, risk management, and internal audit. These partnerships paved the way for the security teams to serve the business more effectively. William spearheaded long-term PCI and Sarbanes Oxley remediation projects to successful conclusions. Additionally, William led Identity Management and Data Leak Prevention projects which were tightly aligned with business objectives.

Over the past 10 years, William has led assessments for leading merchants, service providers as well as application vendors as a QSA and PA-QSA in the United States and internationally. These merchants and service providers span many sectors including travel, financial, healthcare, pharmaceutical, retail, and higher education, among others.

When not focused on security and compliance, William enjoys restoring classic Volkswagens, snowboarding, and electric skateboarding.
